Prepare all expectant parents to thrive in the fourth trimester by helping them to spot potential challenges, address anticipated needs, identify their village, and empower them to develop an in-depth plan. Increase your knowledge and ability to support your clients in prevention and reduction of postpartum mood disorders.

This workshop can be utilized for a general audience but is particularly helpful for those building their foundational tools to work in maternal mental health.

Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) is an umbrella term for a range of mental health conditions that can occur during pregnancy and up to one year after giving birth.

The fourth trimester is the 12-week period after giving birth, and it's a time of adjustment and recovery for both the mother and baby. It's just as important as the first three trimesters of pregnancy, and it's a time when many changes can occur physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially.

Workshop Objectives:

By the conclusion of the class participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the potential physical, emotional, and mental challenges expectant parents may experience during the 4th trimester.
  2. Identify and assess which expectant parents would benefit from additional planning to be successful in their postpartum period.
  3. Apply key steps to assist expectant parents in designing a plan for the fourth trimester.
  4. Describe common symptoms of postpartum mood disorders.
