Social anxiety disorder is estimated to affect almost 7% of adults in the U.S. Many people who seek treatment for depression, general anxiety, and/or substance abuse are also suffering from social anxiety, and in many of these cases social anxiety is the core problem.

This workshop will provide an overview of standard cognitive-behavioral therapy for social anxiety with an emphasis on useful tips, techniques, and observations John has developed in his years of treating social anxiety, including:
  • How to build rapport with socially anxious clients
  • Why cognitive work is so important with social anxiety
  • A litmus test for distinguishing rational from irrational anxiety
  • A two-word phrase for liberating the socially anxious mind
  • Identifying and overcoming inhibiting “filters”
  • How to use exposure, and 4 ways that exposure works
  • A particular role and rationale for mindfulness practice

John will invite questions, interjections, and discussion of your cases as part of the workshop.
