Presenter: Mariyn Finch Williams, LCSW (www.mediancenter.com)

Neurofeedback, a form of biofeedback, helps the brain train itself to work more efficiently through monitoring and giving feedback about a patient’s brain waves. Using this tool, a therapist can facilitate a client’s increased awareness, as well as the flexibility and resiliency of the brain. Through this technology, the brain interrupts it’s own “stuck” and inefficient patterns. Through anecdotes and case examples, Marilyn Williams, LCSW will show how easy it is for Clinicians to introduce this life-changing technology in any setting; how clinicians’s own use can enhance their lives and positively affect their own professional satisfaction ; and will contrast client outcomes by comparing her first 20 years of practice to her last 10 years of practice.

For the last 10 years of her Psychotherapy/Family Systems Practice, Marilyn Williams,LCSW, has incorporated Neuroptimal™

Neurofeedback in her work with families, couples and individuals. It is Marilyn's belief that every therapist’s job is to “work themselves out of a job.” and

introduction of neurofeedback during psychotherapy has resulted in clients making desired transformations rapidly, seamlessly and efficiently. This state-of-the-art brain training can be used with any population, requires no neuroscience background, is holistic, and completely safe. Over a 10 year period, Marilyn was so impressed with the differences in her clients, in 2015, she founded the MEDIAN Center for Resilience and Brain Training, to reach greater numbers suffering from anxiety, depression, PTSD ( inspired by her passion to eventually get this to Veterans suffering from PTSD and TBI on a non-profit basis).

Learning Objectives

1. Attendees will gain a basic understanding of Neurofeedback.

2. Attendees will learn the difference between what is now “conventional” neurofeedback and the state-of-the-art technology that is Neuroptimal,® now available and easy to use.

3. Attendees will see a live demonstration of the technology.

4. Through the use of case presentations, attendees will learn the contrast in clinical outcomes with and without the use of neurofeedback over an 8 year period and learn how incorporation of neurofeedback, in their work with any population, exponentially increases desired outcomes.

5.Attendees will learn how use of neurofeedback by the Clinician themselves, can greatly enhance their own resilience and work with clients.

6. Attendees will learn the simple steps to be taken in order to incorporate this technology without further training.

About the Presenter:

Marilyn has been an Individual and Family Therapist for 31 years, with 12 years of primary training in multi-generational family process with Edwin H. Friedman, author of “Generation to Generation-Family Process in Church and Synagogue” and “A Failure of Nerve-Leadership in the Age of the Quick Fix.” Above all, Dr. Friedman taught his students the value of a non-anxious presence in any system, an idea Marilyn tries to bring to her relationships with clients who suffer from a variety of symptoms, including depression, anxiety, addiction, family and adolescent issues, relationship issues, PTSD, and developmental trauma. Marilyn helps her clients use the signal provided by the symptom experienced to become less reactive and more self-defined in the presence of the chronic anxiety that is part of any emotional system.

In the last eight years, Marilyn has used NeurOptimal® neurofeedback in conjunction with therapy. Her experience using this technology with herself, her children, and her clients reveals that people are able to make desired changes much more seamlessly and in a shorter time frame. She thinks of herself as a Johnny Appleseed of NeurOptimal®, and hopes to relieve human suffering one person at a time by calming one brain at a time.

Marilyn began her career working with the families of terrorist victims for the Office for Combatting Terrorism at the U.S. Department of State. She earned her Master of Social Work from Catholic University and has a BA in International Relations. In addition she is a Certified Enneagram Teacher, an Advanced NeurOptimal® Trainer, and a Scream-Free Parenting® Trainer, as well as a former Adjunct Professor in the School of Social Work at George Mason University.

In addition to her therapy practice, Marilyn is a sought-after lecturer, speaker, trainer, consultant, and retreat-leader. She also provides Supervision for candidates for Clinical Licensure. Please contact her if you or your parent, church group, or business is interested in speaking, lecturing or training services on these and other topics:
